Westie Rescue Mission Statement
Westie Rescue of Missouri, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation formed in 1999 to address the rescue needs of shelter dogs and puppy mill dogs. In 2000, WRM was licensed as an animal shelter by the State of Missouri. In 2001, WRM received its 501(c)3 tax exempt status from the IRS.
It is the mission of Westie Rescue of Missouri to prevent cruelty, abuse or neglect of West Highland White Terriers. To that end, we will provide rescue services, rehabilitation, and medical treatment (which will include spaying or neutering). During their time in our care, we will provide the Westies with a warm, safe and healthy environment where they can develop to their full potential while we search for their new "forever" home.
All WRM staff are volunteers. No salaries are paid. Volunteers donate their own money, as well as their time and their other resources, to rescue, rehabilitate, place and transport rescue dogs. WRM has rescue volunteers in a number of different states and, in addition to our own rescue efforts, we also assist other regional rescue groups in their rescue, transport and placement of dogs. All our rescues are fostered within our volunteer’s private homes.
WRM dogs can be found throughout the United States including California, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, South Dakota, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maine, and New York.
WRM discourages anyone from purchasing a dog from a commercial breeder, pet store, puppy mill, or puppy mill auction. WRM staff have attended puppy mill auctions in 1999 to the present, and their stories are contained on this site to educate the public about the nature of the mill industry in Missouri. Please contact the West Highland White Terrier Club of America or Westie Rescue USA to find the rescue representative closest to you or for the name of a reputable breeder.
