Mandy's Story

Here I am, Mandy, in my very own sunbeam. It comes in every day and I love it. This is what I had been dreaming about in my cage in that puppymill. I am clean, dry and basking in the sun dreaming about all those delicious treats and foods that I get.

And that's me in my new coat. I have never had a coat before. Now I have three coats. This red plaid was my first and I like it a lot. I can also wear it turned inside out and it is red with a plaid collar. Can you believe that?
This is me again. Look what I have for the rain!!! Oh, this furever home is just wonderful. Did you notice that I have a blue bone in my mouth. I was ten years old when I got out of that puppymill and had never had anything like this bone. When I bite on it in its special place, it squeaks and talks to me. And it is so soft in my mouth. You know I had to give up a lot of bad teeth when I got out of that place, but this bone doesn't hurt my mouth like when I would chew on that metal cage. My uncle gave this bone to me. Imagine that, I have three uncles and two aunts. They love me as much as my mommy loves me. Oh, this life is so wonderful!!
Even my cousin Angel lets me share with her. She knows how I felt when I came over because she was rescued and sent to an animal shelter, then she was adopted by my mawmaw. My mawmaw had a stroke, but she is better now. The first word that she could say was Mandy. How proud I was that she knew my name and called me. Think about if I had not come to visit her. She might not have ever talked again.
Guess what!! Here's my mommy and her friends. This picture was taken of me on my front lawn. I have a whole house with a special sidewalk in back that was made just for me. How about that!! And mommy put some lights so I can walk out at night and do my business outside. That's the best. No more mess on me. I will be clean forever. Well, that is when I do not rub myself along the side of our car. That feels so good because it is so smooth.
One day I woke up and when I got to my mawmaw's house there was something cold and white falling from the sky. It was all over. My cousin Angel and I went out to play in it. Boy was it fun, cold but fun. So here's my last picture. Guess I will find new things every day. I am so happy out here.

UPDATE
On Monday, January 7, 2008, Mandy Moon lost her battle with Cushings disease. After surviving 10 years in a cage in a puppymill she lived two years of happy, carefree time taking long walks, hunting for varmints, and passing time with her friends. Then Cushings disease entered her life and put limitations on what she could do. Throughout the entire three years free from the puppymill she gave unconditional love and friendship to all that she met. Mandy’s family misses her dearly but knows that the kidney failure that took her could not be corrected, so it was time for her to go to a place where she would no longer be agonizing over breathing. Mandy’s life could have been different if she had been given a start outside the puppymill. We provided her with the opportunity to enjoy life with the time that she had. With great sorrow I tell you of her passing.
Westie Rescue of Missouri would like to take this time, to once again, remind everyone to share the passing of Mandy as just one more reason why puppy mills are wrong and when the pet stores no longer sell 'puppies', then the puppy mills will have no other choice but to close their doors - once and for all.
For Mandy and her family we send our heartfelt love and gratitude for a life well loved - regardless of how short it turned out to be.
