Minnesota Max

Minnesota Max's journey

Our story begins rather dully.  We are already owners of a wonderfully spoiled Westie named Willie.  However, we felt he was lonely for the companionship of another white four-legged friend.  I had found this Westie rescue site and knew the instant I saw pictures of these adorable creatures that I had to help one of them.  I was first on the list for one with severe skin allergies and was prepared for this challenge. When that fell through, I was disappointed. But my contact told me they had just received word of a young eight month-old Westie puppy with too much energy for his elderly owners. We got this energetic pup, named Max, on April 3, 2006 and have loved every minute of his personality and spunk since!  Willie had become “my dog” and with the introduction of Max into the family, my husband has now claimed him for his own. Max has been such a delightful addition with his constant tail wagging and high energy.  So much energy has Max brought into the house that Willie has even lost some “couch-potato” weight,  especially since “Mad Max” can always be found permanently attached to Willie’s tail at any one point of the day!

Willie was not sure what to think of Max at first.  I fear his thoughts were “What did I do wrong to deserve this white energetic furball attacking me all the time?”  Willie has since stood his ground and has learned that it’s not so bad having someone his own size to chase around the couch with.  Max and Willie’s favorite game now is to play tug-of-war with a toy Christmas wreath.  They each growl and grunt the entire time.  Max isn’t quite as big as Willie, therefore doesn’t have the strength to drag the other around like Willie can. But, Max always follows Willie wherever he goes, sniffs whatever Willie smells and licks whatever Willie has found to eat off the ground!  The only problem I have is I don’t have a big enough lap for the two of them, which is where they both end up when we are in the family room watching TV in the evenings.  My husband gets pretty jealous that I have ALL the dogs on my lap and no one by him!  Oh well!!

We knew Max was meant to be a part of our family when, at the vet, I found out he has the exact same birthday as Willie.  How much more perfect is that?! This has been one of the best moves we’ve made in adopting a dog and we are forever grateful to have Max as a part of our family. We are glad to help out a dog in need and we will always continue to support those who make that possible!
