Sasha's Story

We became Sasha's forever "parents" October 21st, 2001.  I had been a Westie owner before and had been missing having one.  We looked at pictures on the rescue site and anxiously got our home ready for a rescue Westie.

We got our call on a Friday night and were asked to pick her up on a Sunday morning since her friendship skills were not so good when it came to other dogs!!!!  We were soooo excited, we couldn't wait!  When Angie pulled in to our meeting place and we saw that smiling face beaming out the window, we knew we had a keeper.  She looked a little rough around the edges, but she was a sweetie, even then.

It is now just over three years since Sasha entered our lives and she is in complete control of us!   She graduated from sleeping on a bed in the kitchen to sleeping with us in our bedroom within the first few months. In the beginning she was gated in the kitchen during the day while we were at work but now she has the run of the house.  She has never had an accident in the house except once when she was sick.

Now all of this may seem pretty mundane and even typical for many dogs.  But Sasha is even more special to us.  Last summer, Sasha started waking me up at night.  She would come up to my pillow and put her nose next to my ear and cry.  If that didn't do it, she would scratch at the pillow with her paw.  We couldn't figure out what she was doing for a time.  Then my husband paid closer attention and realized when she did it, I was not
breathing.  I had to go to the doctor. and they discovered that I had a tumor and sleep apnea.  Now that I have had both problems taken care of, she no longer wakes me up, unless it is time for breakfast!!!!!   She is quite a dog and we love her bunches!!!!

Sasha is doing GREAT!  She is such a special dog.  This summer she rescued me by waking me up when the gas stove was accidentally bumped on. It was pretty amazing but she knew what to do, I guess.  I was violently ill for about four hours after but I am sure the outcome would have been much worse if she hadn't persisted in her licking efforts.
No other big news....we just love our little Sasha!
