Spencer's Story

My name is Carol, and I've become one of those folks who loves her animals so much that I'd do just about anything to help/baby them.
This past March, I adopted an 11-year old female Westie, Ginger, from an ad in our local Nashville paper. As it turned out, Ginger's last owner(s) and I have become like family and talk or visit every few weeks. Ginger and her Westie sibling, Sandi, had a rough go of things after their original owner near Detroit, MI died unexpectedly in June, 2005.
Once I adopted Ginger (who had 4-5 homes in Tennessee since coming from Michigan), I began research to try to locate her sister. Unfortunately, I never located Sandi, but in the process befriended Angie with the Missouri Rescue group. Luann was fostering a sweet older guy, Spencer, who also had lived with a sibling (Stanley) for several years. The two of them went through several homes, and Stanley ended up being adopted by one of the rescue volunteers. One look at Spencer Boy's sweet face, I decided I needed him and he needed me. Upon approval, I shipped Ginger off to stay the weekend with some friends down the street who own another female Westie, and I hopped a bird to Kansas City. Luann and Ethel were so wonderful to me, and Spencer and I bonded instantly, just like Ginger and I had done a couple of months prior! I rented an SUV, and drove my new little boy home the next day.
Spencer will be 9 next week, but you'd never know it. He plays like a rough boy puppy a lot of the time, but he absolutely adores his mom and my 12-year old daughter, Caitlin. He's really attached himself to her! He hasn't met a “lap” he didn't like, so if you don't like a 17 lb. lap pup in your lap, you'd better not sit down in my home! My older pups are just precious together, and really managed to completely bond when I went on vacation to the beach recently. I was miserable without them, and have decided the next time, they just have to go with me!
I'm very thankful to the various rescue groups throughout the U.S. These volunteers work tirelessly to help helpless little pups from all different situations. I hope to be able to volunteer my time in the future, but right now I have my hands full!
Thanks, Angie, Luann & Ethel. You guys are the best!
