Tipper and Kali after being rescued

Awe my Girls….

Last Summer Westie Rescue of Missouri received two little girls. Tipper 3 months old and Kali 6 months old. I the foster Mom will be telling you the story of these girls while they were in my care. A lot of people inquire about adopting puppies. Well when we get them… this is what we get!!! No puppy miller is going to part with a good puppy. They want the MONEY!!!!

Both girls came from the same puppy mill. They were throwaway puppies.

The first little girl was Tipper she was 3months old and a complete spitfire Westie. By the pictures of Tipper you can see how horribly this baby suffered. The best was I can describe Tippers problems was that her plumbing was completely wired wrong which cause this poor baby to drip urine constantly like a facet. The medical term for her condition is a "entopic ureter. As you can see her urethra was nothing but a horrible infection and bacteria.

I took Tipper into The Veterinary Specialty clinic and Emergency care. They did a biopsy and had never seen anything like this. A sonogram wasperformed to see what all was going on with her plumbing. We treated her with liquid antibiotic that were Cherry flavored. Tipper took them twice a day. She was so smart I would say to her, "Time for your Cherry berry" and she would go running to the frig to take them. I would cornstarch her at lease 5 times a day to keep her nice and dry. She healed beautifully but she couldn't have surgery till she was 6 months old to correct the problems. She was way to tiny to operate on and get everything connected properly.

Then there was Kali. Kali was so scared of her own shadow. Unlike Tipper that would light a fire under the very ground she zoomed through. Kali was another throw away due to a pretty bad heart murmur. Her growth was stunted, as most dogs that have heart murmurs tend to be on the smaller size. She was seen by they same Clinic as Tipper was. Both girls spent the day at the clinic and Kali had a sonogram done as well as Tipper.

Kali need surgery right away. 6 months is the perfect age to correct a heart murmur. She was operated on the very next day. If it had not been corrected the results of her life span would have been very short as she was getting the proper blood supply and correcting a murmur in a older dogs has less chance of fully correcting it.

Kali

We were allowed visits at the hospital so the first time I went it was a short stay as she wasn't feeling well nor eating. I went out the next day and before going I talked to the Doctor and he said she wouldn't eat. Bring anything you want, as she needs to eat. I asked if I could bring Tipper too and he said Yes!! Well Tipper and I stopped at McDonalds and got Kali a plain hamburger. She was so excited to see her pal and roommate Tipper that she ate her hamburger right up. Tipper amused Kali with her playfulness of the food bowl. She would carry it around and toss it. Kali was so happy but tired very quickly.

Day 3 - Kali could come home. Ask me what a nervous foster Mom I was!!! A little heart patient. YIKES. I got home and put Kali in a small bathroom and gated her in. I went to check on Tipper in another room and I turned around and there was Kali. Yes she jumped the gate after just having HEART SURGERY!!! She wanted to be with Tipper. I ran to the phone and called the clinic. They calmed me down and all was fine. Except I felt I was about to have a heart attack over what had just happened. The directions were keep her quite and no stress of activity of any kind!!! Good grief she just did the high jump!!! Westie Rescue of Missouri paid for the surgery of Kali costing the group $1.250.60 to fix her heart murmur.

After 2 weeks it was time for the girls to go home. Yes a husband and wife in Chicago adopted them. Both girls got to stay together.

Chris the new mom was now a new mom to two little Westie girls. Chris had Tippers Surgery done at Ohio State when she was six months old. I'm so proud and happy to say that the Surgery was a HUGE success. Chris said the only drip in the house was the sink faucet. This was a very tricky surgery and that is why we had Chris drive her all the way to Ohio State as they simply have the Best Veterinary surgeons around. Tipper's surgery cost Westie Rescue of Missouri $1.856.50 to fix her entopic ureter.

The problems comes from poor breeding practices in Puppymills. Tipper's Mother and Father should be pulled from breeding and passing this on to new off spring.

We are so proud of these two Girls and how wonderfully there surgeries turned out. The percentage of Tippers surgery had only an 85 percent guarantee. So we Thank Ohio State for there magical hands of the surgeon's who ended correcting her 100 percent.
