Wendy's Story

January, of 2003, was devastating for me after the loss of my beloved Westie girl, Samantha. I hesitated whether I would get another Westie for several months. Then in talking with my cousin Suzan, she suggested thinking about adopting a Westie rescue dog. I checked out the web site for Petfinder.com and linked into the Westie home page. There were several little girls listed, but all had adoption pending listed on their bios.
Then one day while at work, having one of those “boring moments” I again logged into Petfinder.com, linked into the Westie home page and there she was! The little girl who stole my heart with one look – it was Wendy!
Her bio said that she had been abandon for some time, had loss most of her hair due to massive malnutrition and weigh in at only 8lbs. She looked like a pitiful little pearl that needed someone to give her tons of TLC. I decided she needed me just as much as I needed her. I quickly completed the application and submitted it to Westie Rescue.
The next week I received an e-mail from Angie asking if she could contact me at work. Her call came and we talk for an hour about why I wanted Wendy, was my back yard fenced, how would I handle health issues, allergies problems, would I feed a raw diet, what experiences had I had with other pets. The list of questions went on and on. Angie then asked if the foster Mom of Wendy could talk with me. Yes, of course was my reply! Later that morning Brenda called and we talked for almost an hour as well.
Brenda explained all of Wendy’s health issues, (loss of hair and weight) double checking with me if I had a problem with feeding Wendy a raw diet, would I continue the “Bag Balm” routine on her skin (in hopes that her hair would come back in). And the final question was would I stay in touch with her as to Wendy’s progress. YES YES YES, I replied.
We set up a time and place to meet so I could pick up Wendy. I was so impressed with the care, concern, and love that these two women had shown about Wendy that I decided that if there was ever something I could do to help them I would. Since that decision, I have fostered several Westies, completed two home visits, and kept in touch with Brenda and Angie via e-mails, pictures, and phone calls. Westie Rescue is a great organization with lots of people commented to helping Westies in need.
UPDATE
An update on Miss Wendy, she now weighs 20 lbs and all of her hair (thanks to the Bag Balm) and it’s thick! She has a curious sense of adventure and is very smart. She loves car riding and visiting my Mother at the Nursing Home. We are very happy together! I thank Brenda, Angie and a special “angel” for letting Wendy and I find each other. Thanks Ladies!!!
