Willie's Story

My name is Willie Wee Hooligan… I know my Mom thought this name quite appropriate for my story that my Rescuer is about to tell you. Westie Rescue of Missouri saved my life!!! If it had not been for their quick action to a phone call they receive from a family that found me. Well I don't even want to think what could have happened to me.
Its was a very cold day when a call came in from a lady needing immediate assistance to a Westie that had been attacked by a pit bull the night before. Her father saw the attack and took the Westie in. He had seen the dog running with the wrong crowd and worried for his safety. No matter how many times this man got Willie in his back yard, Willie would escape and go running with the bad boys again. Cause (NOT NEUTERED)! Okay back to the night Willie was attacked. The gentleman ran to Willies aid and picked him up and got him in the house were he cleaned him up. Willie was hurt much worse than they had ever imagined. More details to follow.
I got the call from the daughter of this gentleman and they had no funds to help Willie or get him to a Vet. I jumped in my car and met her in a VERY BAD part of town. When she and her mother showed up their laid Willie wrapped in a blanket laying on the backseat of the car. I carefully lifted him and put him in my back seat. I took him to my Vet were they assessed him as to having a fractured pelvis and a broken leg in several places. He spent the night and I picked him up at 7am the next morning. I had already made the calls The Veterinary Specialty Clinic and Emergency Center and they knew Willie was on his way. When we arrived the Doctor was waiting for him. We had X-rays in hand and the surgery was scheduled. Willie had a plate put in his leg and 5 screws. The pelvis was to heal on its own. Meanwhile I was lining up a quiet foster home for Willie. I called one of my Dearest Friends who had a Yorkie. She was the only one with a peacefully loving household that I could think of. All of us in Rescue have several little Westie terrors of our own and he needed no stimulation.
Two days later Willie was able to come home. The hard part was yet to come. Willie had to be confined for 6 weeks!!!!!!!!!!! Yes 6 weeks to a carrier or small room. So we chose a small bathroom. He could do no stairs and had to be carried out for all potty breaks. Poor guy barked and howled. His foster Mom would lay on the floor with him and hand feed him. He was so depressed. But so happy when his 2 weeks check to the Vet came!! Awe YES an outing. The clinic was 30 min's away. All looked good and then back home for 4 more weeks of looking at that toilet and shower it was enough to make a Westie boy go mad!!!
Willie couldn't be fully groomed either so you can see how he looked when he came into Rescue. Then you will see his 6 weeks picture and then today living at home in Chicago with his Mom and Dad and Westie sister. All our funds for donations got for the care of these dogs. Dogs like Willie surgery ran the group 1200.00 dollars. Most of our Rescue dogs Vet bills run between 250 and 500. So we are always Thankful for the people who help support us. All our Rescue efforts and the time our Volunteers spend are to help the ones in need. We do it for the love of these little Westies.
To my Dear Foster Mom
I will miss all your tender loving care. You took me in when nobody cared. I was such a mess and broken apart. I had NO idea that someone could find such love for me in there heart. I will miss your sweet laugh and the joy that we had. I'll miss your caress and your sweet whisper goodnight my little lad. You kept me safe and sound day and night. And entertain me with treats and all kinds of joyful delights.
I know I wasn't easy and very unhappy at first. The confinement I felt was absolutely the worst!!! I didn't understand I needed it to heal. I just wanted to go out to see the world. You began to trust when it wasn't deserved and I watered your carpet more than the curb!!!
I will Miss Sweet Millie and Maddie too. I will never forget her bringing me a morsel or two. They made me feel happy and playful again Arooooh!!!
Know that I will never forget you in my heart. You had so much patience with me from the very start. I don't know why we had to say goodbye. But don't you worry and try not to cry. Its hard for me too as I don't understand. But others have my best interest in there hands.
All my Westie Aroooh's to you….
Willie Wee Hooligan!!!!!!
